The Nixon Pardon

Regarding the Nixon pardon by Gerald Ford, it's difficult to reach any definite conclusion about the validity of the reasoning. right or wrong. And, the question persists: Would Ford have pardoned Nixon if he had known for sure that it would cost him any chance to win an elected term as President?

That there was a quid pro quo, spoken or unspoken, I have no doubt. This is how the game is played. However, I believe that Nixon should have been forced to admit his complicity and responsibility in the crimes of Watergate and other activities before the pardon was granted.

I'm afraid that a precedent may have been set. From now on, any President can "get away with murder" if he is certain that the person who succeeds him in office will grant a pardon, no matter what the circumstances.

This is not good.

Gerald R. Ford, gentleman politician

Gerald R. Ford was no doubt a gentleman and a person of integrity. However, he was a professional politician, and in that world, "Quid pro Quo" is the title of the handbook.

Nixon's vice-president was the corrupt Spiro Agnew. When Agnew was forced to resign because of tax evasion problems, Nixon needed a vice-president that was acceptable to the public and congress, and could be trusted.

When Ford's appointed term was up and he ran for the Presidency against Jimmy Carter, the Nixon pardon may be the cause of Ford losing the election.

At that time, it was very difficult for people, including this writer, to believe that the Nixon pardon wasn't a quid pro quo to gain the vice-presidency for Ford. Nixon had to know that trouble was coming and he needed a successor that was dependable.

Maybe, considering the times, it was the right thing to do. However, it left a very bad taste in the mouths of many, many people, and tarnished Ford's legacy.

Former President Ford dies

Gerald Ford worked to restore honor and integrity to the office of President of the United States after the morass of the Nixon administration.

Who will we find to restore the office of President after the disaster of Bush?

Hercules accepted the task of cleaning the Augean stables. Do we have a potential "Hercules" who is willing and able to muck out the Oval Office? Can the befoulment be banished and honor restored?

Stay tuned. The answer is far from certain.

Don't sweat Iraq, go shopping!

When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping

President George W. Bush has an instant remedy for anything that ails this nation or his failed administration.

Go shopping.

Jeb Bush? No Way!

"I have no future" -- Jeb Bush tells reporters

http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=politicsNews&storyID=2006-12-21T115653Z_01_N20428647_RTRUKOC_0_US-BUSH-JEB.xml&WTmodLoc=PolNewsHome_C1_%5BFeed%5D-5

======================================

Concerning Jeb Bush, I have this to say:

We fought the War of the Revolution to escape the tyranny of dynastic kings and their claim that they ruled by divine right.

We have had Bush  1 and 2, and it's damn well enough. As it is now, Bush 2 thinks he talks to God,and probably believes he has some kind of "divine right" to do as he pleases, even if the destruction of nations is the result. Bush 3 would constitute a dynasty, and who knows where it would proceed from there.

My great-great -grandfather at the age of 15 years was a member of George Washington's Army of the Revolution. To succumb to the rule of familial dynasty would be a great dishonor to him, and to all his brethren who suffered and died so we could be free.

Senator Smith blows off Washington

Smith says Iraq war may be "criminal"

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. Gordon Smith, who voted in favor of the Iraq war and has supported it ever since, now says the current U.S. war effort is "absurd" and "may even be criminal."

========================================

Senator Smith, if you're smart enough to see it now, why weren't you smart enough  to see it then? The citizens of Oregon voted you into office because they thought you had the intelligence to see the truth and do the job. Now that you have admitted you were so very wrong, shouldn't you resign?

Stay the course, or change the course?

Various tv talking heads are discussing the possibility of Bush implementing all the recommendations of the Baker-Hamilton Commission.

In my opinion, not likely. I don't think that Bush is either flexible enough. or smart enough to follow this course.

Many, many more body bags will come back from Iraq before we see the end of this awful disaster.

"When will they ever learn?"

David Ignatius on Iraq

Below is a quote by David Ignatius in his op-ed piece in the WASHINGTON POST of December 7th. The link is to the article.

" This is the real national security threat to America -- this sense in the rest of the world that Iraq symbolizes America's fatal new combination of arrogance and incompetence."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/06/AR2006120601673.html

==========================================

Many very concerned citizens of the United States have been saying much the same for some time now. In many parts of the world we are no longer seen as a shining beacon. Now, we are viewed with fear and loathing by much of the world.

How long will it take to turn this around?

Baker-Hamilton Report

The report says: "The situation in Iraq is grave and deteriorating."

When a physician, speaking of a patient's condition uses the words "grave and deteriorating", it means only only one thing. There is no hope and death is imminent.

Bush and cohorts should ponder this as best their limited intellects will allow.

Their greed and stupidity have led us into the Hell of Dante's Inferno where the words, "Abandon hope all ye who enter here" are engraved over the entrance.

If indeed there is a Hell, these fools deserve to spend eternity there, as they have created Hell on Earth in Iraq.

 Baker-Hamilton Report:
Time to bring back the old game, TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES. Bush is the contestant. If he doesn't tell the truth, face the truth, and implement the truth, the consequences should be severe.

Hillary for Pres?

Hillary Drumming Up Support for Possible Presidential Run

Dec 4, 2006 08:18 AM PST

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is drumming up support for her own possible presidential run in 2008.

She met with Governor-elect Eliot Spitzer yesterday in New York City, and she has been contacting other top Democrats, like Senator Charles Schumer, to see who would support her if she decided to run.

Clinton has not made an official decision, but many national polls show her as the front-runner for the 2008 Democratic nomination.

===========================================

I'll be surprised if Eliot Spitzer gives Hillary much support. There is a New York State tradition of crusading attorneys-general becoming governor and then running for president. Eliot wouldn't want Hillary in the way.

I've been hearing some Republican yack saying that if Bush had fired Rumsfeld 2 weeks before the election, maybe they would have held on to the Senate and not lost as many House seats.

What a crock!

"The fish rots from the head". Bush put Rummy in office, and therefore is directly responsible for everything he did. If the whining losers thought Rummy was a problem, why wern't they on Bush's case about it? Karl Rove is supposed to be so smart. Why didn't he tell Bush that Rummy was going to cost them the Senate and House? Or maybe he isn't so damn smart after all.

A Letter to my Country

My memory of Presidents goes back to Franklin D. Roosevelt. Of all the Presidents from then to now, none was more deserving of impeachment and conviction  than is George W. Bush.
The Bush administration has been a disaster on all fronts, foreign and domestic. They have mired us in an unnecessary and unwinnable war that has caused the death and injury of thousands upon thousands of our troops, and created  millions upon millions of new enemies that will hate us for generations. Add to that, many countries that were once our steadfast allies, now view us with fear and loathing.
On the home front, the Bush administration claims a strong economy. This is a facade created by massive debt that if not brought under control, will fall like a house of cards.
I strongly feel that Bush is very deserving of impeachment and removal from office based on what the Constitution calls "high crimes and misdemeanors".
That being said, I believe the best course for the Democratic majority in the House and Senate is to take a firm hold of the situation and bring control over the chaos at home and abroad.
Let Bush serve out his term, but keep him on a tight leash, with the specter of impeachment lurking in the background.
It pains me greatly to recommend against impeachment, because no President is now, or has been more deserving of the disgrace and removal from office than Bush. However, the redemption and salvation of my precious country is far more important than revenge.

Orwell updated

                                              2084
An Orwellian view of the former United States of America

In the mid 21st century, the Constitution of the United States was overthrown, and a theocratic dictatorship assumed power.

The dictator who took power was installed by the Evangelical Party, and has a very interesting origin.
This person was the result of a DNA combination from 2 individuals carefully chosen for certain characteristics. The dominate characteristics were moronic compliance and extreme manipulative cleverness. The birth of this person was by some unknown method of asexual propagation and artificial gestation. More of these clones are in cold storage to propagate when replacement is necessary.

The name of this dictator, if any, is unknown to the population. Only the title is known. Burov the First.
The evil visage of Burov is everywhere. It cannot be escaped, and each eye in the face is a camera transmitting every move you make and every word you speak to the Party Headquarters.

The name, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is no more. It has been totally banished, and to speak of it is a criminal offense. The new name of what once was the USA is ARMAGEDDONA OF AMERIKA, and the capitol, the exact whereabouts unknown to the people, is named APOCALYPSA. It is thought, and carefully whispered among the citizens, that the capitol is buried underground in some mountainous area in the west as protection against "nukular" (as it is now spelled) attack.

Washington DC had to be abandoned sometime in mid-century because global warming, that infamous liberal conspiracy, had flooded the coastal areas of the country. This flooding caused massive dislocation and millions of deaths. In New Orleans however, the death toll was less than other cities because the Katrina hurricane damage was never repaired, and the population never regained pre- Katrina levels.

At this point in history, The Democratic Republic of China was the richest and most powerful nation in the world. One of the major problems China faced was containing ARMAGEDDONA, and protecting the neighboring countries to the north and south.

Canada and Mexico, with the very long borders were having trouble assimilating the huge numbers of illegal immigrants looking for freedom and a better life. China became involved with helping these two countries build "Great Walls" in hopes of stemming the tide of refugees fleeing theocratic fascism. After all, what country in history has had more experience with walls and very long borders to protect, often by conquering and enslaving it's neighbors.

The collapse of the United States was caused in part by constant war and massive debt that over time ruined the financial base. When the time came to repay the debt owed to many foreign countries, the monetary outflow was so great that rampant inflation was followed by economic depression of a magnitude never seen in history. The only survivors were the very rich who had never paid taxes, and hid their wealth in offshore accounts.

These people became the ruling masters.

(this is not) THE END ( of the story)

"On an audio file, the governor, who is seeking re-election in November, was heard bantering with aides about a state lawmaker's ethnicity and saying Cubans and Puerto Ricans have "hot blood" because of a mixture of African and Latino roots. Schwarzenegger quickly apologized for the remarks."

The Govenator may be right. After all, he's from Austria, the birthplace of Adolf Hitler and Nazi-ism. We all know that all Austrian politicians are Nazis. So let it be with Arnold.

Christo-Fascism versus Islamo-Fascism

Neither of these radical groups, given full power would honor the Constitution, especially the following:

                    ---------------------------------

 Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

                            ---------------------------

Amendment 1 of the Constitution of the United States is in danger from any radical group that gains excessive power. Both radical groups of which I speak hate this Amendment, popularly known as the "Freedom of Religion" amendment.

In my way of thinking, freedom OF religion implys freedom FROM religion, and the persecution that comes from any radical theology/philosophy that has full power over the people.

Beware! Freedom may be in danger.

Bush + Islamic Fascism = Hogwash

It doth appear that Karl Rove, the Joseph Goebbels of the Bush administration has decided that hurling the epithet "fascist" in all directions will turn the poll tide back in the Republics favor. I say "Republics", because they have decided that the Democratic Party is to be called the Democrat Party. BTW, I'm a small d democrat, and I belong to the DEMOCRATIC  Party

Back to "fascism". Seems to me that the Republics hollering about fascism is a case of, "it takes one to know one".

Regarding Iran,-------------------

----------------once again we can look into the mirror, and a blankfaced idiot stares back.

Iraq was Iran's natural enemy, and in the past we have played it that way. Now, because of our invasion of Iraq, the deposing of Saddam, and the creation of conditions that are degenerating into civil war,  we haven't gained power in the area, we have lost it.

In Iraq, our military is mired in a near impossible situation, in which winning is very unlikely. In Washington, our "leadership" suffers from advanced crainial-rectal insertion syndrome while the world situation deteriorates.

Should Bush resign?

More and more, I hear calls for Bush to resign. As much as I would like to see that happen, I have to say that it wouldn't make a discernable difference in the disasterous course our country has taken under the current administration.

If Bush left, what would happen? Nothing. The real president would leave his present White House office and move into the Oval Office.

Same old you know what.

A poem for Dubya

OZYMANDIAS

I met a traveller from an antique land,

Who said--"Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desart....Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
  The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings,
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."

The Bushites yearn to diminish the protections guaranteed to the people by the Constitution of the United States. They desire more and more power, and the Constitution is an "Inconvenient Truth".
To them, I commend the words of that great man who was one of the founding fathers of our country, Benjamin Franklin:
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Who killed JonBenet Ramsey?

The bizarre case of JonBenet Ramsey has taken another bizarre turn, and whether or not the person arrested in Thailand is guilty of her murder will be determined in due course.
I strongly believe that JonBenet's parents were guilty of child abuse. They paraded her around all tarted up like some miniature sex symbol, and brought attention to her that should never be brought to a 6 year old, and shame on them.
The parent's behavior was a contributory factor in JonBenet's death. They may bear no legal liability, but there surely is a moral liability.

Fascist Theocracy or Freedom?

If you love the idea of living in a fascist theocracy, vote Republican.

If you love the Constitution of the United States and believe that the Bill of Rights is the foundation of democracy and freedom, then you must take your chances on the Democrats.

We are losing our democracy under Republican rule, bit by bit. Another 8 years may be fatal, and fascist theocracy may become the order of the day.

Think about it.

Judeo-Christianity vs. Islam

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Maybe there should be a one word change in this prayer to suit the Bushites.

Lets end it thusly:  "WAR without end. Amen"

Saturday, August 12, 2006

"War on Terror". out! "War on Islam". in!

I find the change from "war on terror" to war on "Islamic Fascists" to be an ominous turn of events, mainly because of the Bushites and their evangelical fervor. I have major worries about religious fanatics with great power, and we have 2. One President and one Sec. of State. Part of their belief system is Armageddon, the final battle between the forces of good and evil.
I have long contended that they really didn't want to kill Osama bin Laden.  A prominent face is needed to illustrate the evil enemy. An opponent in the game, as it were.

War on "Islamic Fascists" is possibly the continuation of the "Crusades", a term Bush has used in the past. Islam vs. Judeo-Christianity, between good and evil, you pick the side that gets each term. Seems to me that evil fits both.

I can only imagine what Jesus (remember him? Prince of Peace?) would think of what is being done in his name.

In wars that I remember, we fought countries, Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Imperial Japan, North Korea, Vietnam, etc. Now we're fighting a religion. The worst scenario imaginable.

In the long run, there will be no winners. Two great religions, each wanting to vanquish the other.

And, we probably won't get any oil out of the deal. Instead of praying at church, you might better pray at the pump.

Joe Lieberman

Joe Lieberman is a Democrat. I'm a Democrat. Joe Lieberman is a good guy. I like to think I'm a good guy. Joe Lieberman is all for the Bush war in Iraq and I'm opposed.

Because of Joe and his ilk and their support of Bush and the neocon's war. more than 2500 of our fine young soldiers are dead and 10's of thousands have been wounded. maimed and crippled. Add to that the 10's of thousands of innocent Iraqis that have died and countless more maimed and crippled, and Joe must go. I'm sorry for that, but the "evil that men do lives after them, the good is oft interred with their bones". So let it be with Joe.

Iraq troop reduction

I figured a few months ago that there would be a reduction of troop strength in Iraq as the election grew closer.

Guess what? Some of the generals in Iraq are saying there will be troop reduction starting in September.

Here's the story. If it's a Republican plan, call it "strategic redeployment". If the Democrats ask for troop reduction, its called "cut and run".

Go figure.

"Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war"

A phrase used by Shakespeare. Following is from Julius Caesar.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

ANTONY:
"Blood and destruction shall be so in use
And dreadful objects so familiar
That mothers shall but smile when they behold
Their infants quarter'd with the hands of war;
All pity choked with custom of fell deeds:
And Caesar's spirit, ranging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice
Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Is this where we are now? Will we be devoured by the "dogs of war". If you care, you must speak.

Shakespeare, in Julius Ceasar ( I think) said something like this:

"The evil that men do lives after them. The good is oft interred with their bones".

Karl Rove is hard at work

We have the new fuss about immigration, and now the fuss about English as the official language. And again, the real and very serious problems are put on the back burner and "off the radar" for the general public.

Our glorious leaders, obviously honorable men all, are providing diversions that they hope will  blind us to the very grim reality of the current situation. We are in deep do-do. they know we are in deep do-do, they know not what to do about this mess. so they play mind games. Don't be fooled. These so called "honorable men" will stop at nothing to have  their way by playing us all for fools.

Fellow citizens, remember this admonition: "There are none so blind as they who WILL not see".

War with Mexico

If Bush doesn't get the immigration bill he wants from the House and Senate, maybe his next step will be to declare war on Mexico. In light of recent history, it should be obvious to all that Congressional advise and consent is not required to wage war.

Once war is underway, all illegal immigrants can be rounded up as enemy combatants and put in concentration camps at forced labor. There they will produce goods even cheaper than they do now. This should make business happy.

The Armed Services will be dispatched to the border to repel the invading hordes. The border will be secured, with at least 100000 soldiers stationed there in perpetuity, such as the DMZ at the 38th parallel in Korea. Lets see now, that's been more than 50 years I believe.

My goodness! Do you suppose I've been reading Karl's mind?

Illegal Immigration Scam

Why, all of a sudden, is illegal immigration the most pressing problem facing our country? This is an issue that was a problem long before George second, George first and several administrations before them. What can be the reason for this? Surely there are many very serious problems that rank ahead of immigration. I would suggest that the awful mess in Iraq is at the top. The massive debt we've run up since Bush took office is right up there at the top of any rational list. We owe huge amounts of dollars to many foreign entities, and it's getting worse every day. This will drag down the economy, and further exacerbate the problem. Health care for our citizens is becoming more and more expensive, and affordable to fewer. And the list goes on.
Back to the first question about illegal immigration. I think I have the answer as to why it's on the front burner, and all the other stuff is pushed off to the side.
I detect the fine hand of the evil genius Karl Rove at work here. He hopes to have found a way to make Bush look like a moderate, middle of the road. all around good guy.
I'm not buying it.

CIA.

The CIA is supposed to be a civilian agency, separate from the military. If Gen. Hayden is confirmed as it's head, the separation is finished, and we are that much closer to a military dominated government. In the long run, this is a danger to our Constitutional liberties. Gen. Hayden already seems to have a problem with the Fourth Amendment, and it's prohibition of warrentless searches of United States citizens.

One of my favorite liberty quotes:

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Ben Franklin
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Amendment IV

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon PROBABLE CAUSE*, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. "

*my caps

----------------------------------------------------------------

This is very clear. If we give up Constitutional guarantees, we start down a slippery slope to fascism and dictatorship. Is this what we are fighting for? Is this what our forefathers fought for?

Cost of Gasoline

I hope all you folks out there that elected Big Oil to the White House are not among the millions whining about the price of gasoline.

WHAT---- DID---- YOU---- EXPECT----?

Lot's of the whining is about finding and drilling for more oil.

WAKE UP dummies. Oil is a finite resource. You can't grow more. When it's gone, goodby suckers.

It's time to stop burning oil, because of two reasons. You can't replace it, and the environment in which we all must live is permanently degraded.

It's way overdue to think about saving oil for it's most useful purpose, lubrication. Without proper lubrication, most machines will grind to a halt.

The key to the problem is to burn renewable energy resources that are minimally polluting, while developing energy sources that are absolutely non-polluting and perpetually renewable.

Another goofy liberal idea.

------------time for his boss to go also.

Civilian control of the military as provided by the Constitution gives the President the additional title as Commander-in-Chief.

Further more, the President has the authority to appoint the Secretary of Defense to implement this Constitutional duty..

This power has had it's high moments and it's low moments. One of the highest moments was when Harry (the buck stops here) Truman fired the arrogant and disobedient General Douglas MacArthur.

The low point seems to be here and now, as an incompetant president gives full support to an incompetant defense secretary. Never before have so many generals retired, and then have spoken out with stinging criticism of the secretary. What is it about this scenario that Bush doesn't get?

How many more must die before we are rid of this unholy duo? How will history view this long after we are gone? It won't be pretty.

In the face of FEMA incompetance and mismanagement, someone had the courage and guts to take charge and do what needed to be done. Now he may be prosecuted. If that happenes, it will be the perfect illustration of the old adage, "no good deed goes unpunished".

The time has come for the voters to show some brains and guts, and punish the fools in Washington that are ruining our country, by running them out of office.

Dubya has all the answers

It seems that the great Dubya has the answer to port security. By ignoring global warming, he insures that the oceans rise, flooding the ports, and BINGO!!  no more port security problem. Brilliant!!

"Mission Accomplished"

Well, here we are after 3 years of war in Iraq, and almost that long since Bush strutted like a poppinjay across the carrier deck emblazoned with "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banners, and infamously declared victory.

Where are we now? Deeper and deeper in the hole of immorality, death, and fiscal disaster.

Where and when will it end? Can it ever end? Bush and his gang have created for us billions of enemies that will hate us for generations. Will the self proclaimed champion of democracy for the Middle East be the death of democracy here at home?

Who can lead us out of this suffocating quagmire? The incompetent Republicans are clueless and the Democrats have no balls. They won't even back one of their own, Sen. Feingold, who wants to at least start a dialog in Congress over Bush and his disastrous presidency.

Wake up people, or "Government of the people, by the people and for the people" may be in serious danger.

Bush liberated Iraq

Bush has liberated Iraq from Saddam. Now Iraq is enslaved by a grim and gruesome civil war that will only get worse as long as we are there.

When we leave, as someday we must, a new "Saddam" will take power, and all the death and destruction will have gone for naught.

Did we get a "Snow" job on the port deal

Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snow was former head of CSX, the company that owned the port operations, and was instrumental in the Dubai deal. What did he expect to gain from this deal. Did he do a big "Snow" job on Bush, Congress and the American people? Is it time for a special prosecutor?

It may be possible that the port deal was not a bad thing, but it was so poorly handled as to acquire a very bad smell. Political incompetance is running rampant, and how much more can we stand?

Port deal flop

The Dubai port deal has gone down in flames, or has it?

What a story of Bush failure and political incompetance this has been. We're are supposed to believe that this was a done deal with Dubai before Bush knew about it. How can that be? Is the president a mushroom, kept in the dark and fed CENSORED,( well known bovine end product)? It would seem so. Maybe Dubya didn't have a clue, but I'll bet that ShotgunDick Chaney knew what what coming down.

Was this a deal that would make Machiavelli look like a piker? Did Cheney know it would fall apart? The word is that Dubai will "transfer" the deal to a U.S. "entity", whatever that means. Is it possible that this "entity" is Cheney's old company, Halliburton? Would you be surprised?  Do you feel more secure?

How low can they go?

The Bush administration from inception has gone through 3 phases. Seeming disengagment (pre 9/11), reckless ignorance (invading Iraq), and pathetic performance (Iraq, Katrina, Port Deal, etc.)

Bush in the dark on the port deal is so politically blind as to be pathetic. Bush and his people's performance, pre Katrina, during Katrina and post Katrina is appallingly pitiful. Still spouting platitudes about democracy in Iraq is either stunning demagoguery, plain old stupidity, or both.

In light of the video showing Bush and his flunkys being warned about Katrina and the volume of water expected to top the levees, how can they continue to stonewall? You don't need a Phd. in hydrology to see how that volume of storm driven water flowing over the top of old levees is going to start washing them away, and in consequence create massive flooding.

Even Republicans must start waking up now.

A stinky deal

I have a name for the port deal that I think is a perfect description, and should stick like "Watergate". I propose we call it "Port-a-Potty", because it sure does stink.

----------------------------------------

Later: How about "Port-a-pottygate?  These things always seem to need a "gate" as a suffix.

Stand up. or wimp out

I have a dread feeling that this port deal may be the fork in the road that decides whether we have a tripartite federal government where each of the branches has equal power and provides the balance that keeps each branch in check, or Congress rolls over and turns the balance of power over the executive branch.
In my opinion, this is far more than port security. It goes to the heart of the Constitution.
If the wrong road is taken, we may slip inexorably into a state of fascism, and the miracle that our country's founders wrought after the War of  the Revolution will be lost.
My Great-great Grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War. Will his memory be dishonored?

Bolton: U.N. riddled with bad management, corruption scandals

By PAUL BURKHARDT
Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK -- John Bolton, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, on Saturday declared the international body is hobbled "by bad management, by sex and corruption and by a growing lack of confidence in its ability to carry out missions."

The war is spreading

Saudi Arabia Is on High Alert After Attempted Oil Plant Attack

Feb. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Saudi Arabian security forces are on ``high alert'' for further attacks following an attempt yesterday by militants to blow up the Abqaiq oil center, which handles two-thirds of supply from the world's largest producer.

----------------------------------------------------------------

We were supposed to get oil from Iraq. Not working out. Now if they are able to interrupt oil from Saudi Arabia, the weeping and wailing of the SUV drivers will be heard throughout the land. Oil prices have already taken a pop.

Nothing is working out. Will the voters in this country wise up? We appear to be on a path of self destruction. When will the first bomb hit one of our ports? Is this what it will take to turn us away from madness?

While the factions fight among themselves, they will eventually agree that the enemy is the United States. Then we will have all sides shooting at us. This was bound to happen. Are our "leaders" so "out to lunch" that they couldn't forsee this?

When we have to leave, as eventually we must, one side will win, a Saddam type will gain power and we'll be right back where we started.

Bush Didn't Learn of Port Deal Until After Approval, Aide Says

What's the real story?  These folks do whatever they want, then they wind Bush up and send him on the road to get support for the plan?

Who's in charge here? I'll bet Cheney knew all about it.

Congress should veto Bush

Bush Says Dubai Port Deal Should Proceed, Threatens Veto

http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000006&sid=auP6XjMk11cM&refer=home

Isn't it time for Congress to stop being the lapdog of the Executive branch, stand up on their hind legs and quit being bushbootlickers?

Has the time come to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate this asinine deal and uncover the quid pro quo?

At this time in our history, this deal is beyond all imagination. Not only is security involved, but outsourcing  more business to foreign countries is stupid.

The workers and taxpayers in our country are being royally screwed, and it's time to say, "ENOUGH".

More thoughts:

Regardless of the merits or demerits of the deal, it's still a UAE government owned company. Just for sake of argument, before we invaded Iraq, we had 50 million Islamic enemies. Now we may have 500 million. Saudi Arabia is our friend, right? Egypt is our friend, right? All the 9-11 terrorists were Saudis except for 2 Egyptians. You can bet your life that there are Islamics working for this port company that hate our guts, and would be willing to sacrifice their life to cause great harm to a port city.

Sale of U. S. ports

Just when you think it can't get worse, guess what? It gets worse.

What can these people be thinking? Handing over control of ports of entry to a foreign entity in the Mid-east is the smart thing to do? Every U.S. citizen should be contacting their elected representatives, and insist that a stop be put to this stupid act of near treason.

How long before the first bio-bomb arrives in a container?

P. S.  There must be a quid pro quo lurking undercover. What rewards do Bush and Company receive for approving this deal?

Cheney shootng aftermath

There is a famous quote that applies to the stupid way that Cheney and his people have handled the shooting aftermath.

-------------------

Oh what a tangled web we weave,
When first we practise to deceive!

                           Sir Walter Scott

Then there's the line from a popular song in the Vietnam era:

"When will they ever learn----------"

When indeed??!!

Another Bush dum-dum nomination

In the mode of the unlamented former head of FEMA, Michael(you're doing a heckuva job Brownie) Brown, Bush has nominated for a seat on the Federal Reserve Board an unknown political hack with no qualifications. This person who works in the White House is the son-in-law of a very large contributor to the Bush re-election campaign fund.

This is political patronage at it's worst. There are plenty of highly paid jobs in the system to put people like this where they can do minimum harm.

The Federal Reserve is NOT such a place.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/business/local/sfl-zfed11feb11,0,7906958.story?coll=sfla-business-front

Added later: I'm wondering if this nomination of a former Morgan Stanley employe to the Fed Board has anything to do with Bush's idiotic plan to privatize Social Security? Obviously the big Wall Street money boys are fully behind this wreckage plan. They would benefit bigtime from privatization, and I'm sure would be happy to have a willing tool on the Fed.
