Thoughts on Mumbai

The horror that is Mumbai should cause thoughtful and concerned people to examine carefully the world situation as is defined by terrorism

The thought that came to me this morning as I observed the grim images on the television is this. All that we have done in Iraq is for naught. All who have died in Iraq in pursuit of this vain quest have died for naught. We have been led by fools down a foolish and evil path. "The sins of the fathers shall be visited upon the children......."

Proverbs says: "He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind;" The madness in Mumbai is decended from the generations of leadership of the past for whom self aggrandizement was the primary motivator. The new generation of leadership that is coming to power will only succeed in the so called "war on terror" if they consider the well being of all peoples, and not just the welfare of their own political and economic circle.

We can be thankful on this day for the new "Captain of the Ship of State" who will soon inhabit the Hall of Power known as the White House. Will he have the wisdom and patience to turn the ship around? Maybe we will have the answer on this day in 2009.

WILLIE SEZ

Political guru Willie Brown says of Hillary Clinton in the San Francisco Chronicle of Sunday Nov.23rd:
" her ascension to secretary of state will also be the launching pad for her Supreme Court appointment."

Now you know.

AUTO COMPANY BAILOUT

I find it amazing that these overpaid auto executives can fly to Washington in their private jets, beg for money from Congress, and keep a straight face while doing so.

I can see and hear these fools sipping martinis in their ivory towers while they rant and rave about the evils of socialism.

Throw the bums out!!

THE TRAITOR

I am greatly disturbed that "Judas" Lieberman was allowed to maintain his status in the Democratic Party. If you get whacked and "turn the other cheek", guess what? You get whacked again.
Lieberman is not a Democrat. Send him back to his Republican masters. Maybe they will allow him to keep his "30 pieces of silver".

WHAT TO DO WITH GM, FORD, CHRYSLER

Bankruptcy. Reorganization. Secured Federal loans. Fire the management that created this mess by ignoring industry trends to more compact and fuel efficient cars. Don't screw the workers. They didn't sit in the ivory tower and make stupid decisions. Fed should come up with a universal health care plan like most civilized countries have so as to reduce operating costs for auto companies and all other industries and businesses. This can be done. Just requires the will to make hard decisions and leave ideology behind.

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

In the decade leading up to the 1929 crash and the Great Depression, there were 100's, if not more than a thousand manufacturers of automobiles in the United States. The economics of depression weeded out the vast majority of these companies and only the fittest survived. Will this happen to the "Big Three"? They have been foolish in their design and manufacturing of cars that no longer fit the needs of the people. Should we, the people, pay for the stupidity of these fools?

The bird that couldn't learn to fly was eaten by the fox.

"Commander in Chief"

From the Constitution of the United States:

Section 2 - Civilian Power over Military, Cabinet, Pardon Power, Appointments

"The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States;"
========================================
I am sick and tired of the "talking heads" referring to the President as "Commander in Chief of the United States". Have they never read the Constitution? They make the President sound like a dictator. Wake up and learn! Many people who don't know better believe what they hear on tv/radio, so it's incumbent on commentators to speak accurately and truthfully.

Great Depression Song

This is where Franklin Delano Roosevelt came in. 1933

"Brother, Can You Spare a Dime," lyrics by Yip Harburg, music by Jay Gorney (1931)

They used to tell me I was building a dream, and so I followed the mob,
When there was earth to plow, or guns to bear, I was always there right on the job.
They used to tell me I was building a dream, with peace and glory ahead,
Why should I be standing in line, just waiting for bread?

Once I built a railroad, I made it run, made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad; now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once I built a tower, up to the sun, brick, and rivet, and lime;
Once I built a tower, now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?

JIM CROW

I am a white man, 75 years old. I grew up in a small town in rural Virginia. I remember Jim Crow.

I remember schools, "separate but equal". Public transportation, "Colored to back of the bus". Water fountains, "White Only". Movie theaters, "Colored in balcony only". Restaurants, "White only". And the litany goes on and on.

In my lifetime, just a speck in history, I have seen profound change. We must make this change work for the betterment of all.

Obama Wins

Happy days are here again,
The skies above are clear again
Let us sing a song of cheer again --
Happy days are here again

All together, shout it now --
There's no one who can doubt it now
So let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again

Your cares and troubles are gone --
There'll be no more from now on!

Happy days are here again,
The skies above are clear again
Let us sing a song of cheer again --
Happy days are here again

ENDORSEMENT

McCain endorsed by Cheney!
I'd rather be endorsed by the Devil. YEP, old Beelzebub himself! Always better to have an honest endorsement.

STUDS TERKEL, RIP

Studs Terkel, author and great American died on Friday at the age of 96. Studs was the historian of common man. He went out and talked to ordinary people about their experiences, and the hardships they suffered in the Great Depression. He talked to ordinary people about their jobs and how difficult it could be to keep the job and pay the rent.

I read most of his books many years ago. I should go through my library, find the books and re-read them.

To all Americans: Read Studs' books. You will gain a better understanding of what we have been through, and what we may go through in the near future, especially the economic future.

Studs, you may be gone, but surely not forgotten.
