SoCal Fire

There will be a major difference in the Federal response to the SoCal fire compared to Katrina. Not the least of the reasons will be that SoCal is rich Republican country.

Text below from Google
Thomas "Tip" O'Neill—a longtime Speaker of the House in the U.S. Congress—once declared, "All politics is local." He was explaining how the problems and concerns of towns and cities around the country affect the actions of their representatives and senators in Washington, D.C.

If the locality is wealthy, the action is much faster. I'm sure Tip would understand.

Fear is the Enemy

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the greatest Democrat famously said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
What would FDR think about the inability of his party to overcome fear, stand up to Bush, and find a way out of the horrible and deadly quagmire that is Iraq?

John F. Kennedy wrote a book titled "Profiles in Courage". He would find precious few candidates in Washington DC at this point in history.

Democrats had better wake up, and fast, or they will no longer be relevant, and the power of Congress will be ceded totally to the Executive Branch.

No guts, no glory.

LETTER TO SENATOR BOXER

Dear Senator Boxer

If Bush attacks Iran without a Declaration of War by Congress, and Congress doesn't shut off funding, and initiate Articles of Impeachment, then Congress has become irrelevant and impotent.

Or tripartite system of government will be crippled, and a dictatorship will take over.

This is an unbearable thought. My ancestors fought for our freedom, and now it's being frittered away.

What is to be done?

Letter to Senator Boxer

I just saw you on the Chris Matthews Show. The word "unstable" was uttered. but not by you. I am deadly afraid that this word is appropriate to the situation we find ourselves in.
I remember Pearl Harbor. That was horrific, but just a firecracker compared to what could happen now, if "instability" runs rampant.
What is the answer? I fear that there is not enough spine in the branches of our government opposed to this situation to find the answer.
Please assure me that I'm mistaken.

Military high schools? Military training, discipline and brainwashing? What a great idea! If you're looking forward to the day when the Constitution of the United States is tossed into the paper shredder, and a military junta replaces our current form of government, then go for it!!

Glory glory hallejullah!!

WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE
by Pete Seeger, verse 4

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

WHEN? ALWAYS THE QUESTION. NEVER AN ANSWER.

Should Larry stay or go?

I think Senator Craig should stay to the end of his term, attend every session of the Senate, and force his fellow Republicans to face their hypocrisy on a daily basis.

Maybe if Larry came out of the closet, he could stay out of the stall.

Both sides of the street

Hillary is trying to work both sides of the street on the war issue. It takes a real professional whore to successfully work both sides without getting run down when she crosses over to the other side.

From 02/07:  Hillary Clinton urges troop withdrawal to begin in 90 days

US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, the early front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, has called for a 90-day deadline to start pulling American troops from Iraq.

Now in September 07 she votes for war again. What are we to believe?

Hillary Clinton Votes for War Again

Yesterday, by a vote of 76-22, the Senate passed the Kyl-Lieberman amendment in support of military actions against Iran. This is the second such endorsement of the president by a senate majority in just three months. In July, the Lieberman amendment to "confront Iran" passed with the far stronger majority of 97-0.

Does Bush hate the poor?

Bush's veto of the health care bill for children proves that killing families and their children in Iraq is more important than providing adequate care for poor children in our country. Can't afford to do both.

Letter to Senator Barbara Boxer

I'm concerned about the power that seems to have accrued to the mercenary outfit, Blackwater. The head of this gang is a big contributor to the Republicans, and the payoff is huge.
Will there be a quid pro quo? Is Blackwater the private army of the Republican Party? If push comes to shove, such as Impeachment, will this mercenary gang do the Bush bidding?
Will the  "piece of paper" that is our Constitution be rendered obsolete by scoundrels such as these? Is coup d'tat in their vocabulary?
My Great-great grandfather, Medad Bostwick fought in the War of Revolution that freed us from the monarchs of England, and launched this grand experiment in democracy. Will we allow it to slip away?
I surely hope that I don't live long enough to see it
