Where are Bush's and Cheeney's kids?

Britain's Prince Harry in Afghanistan

An example of TRUE patriotism, as opposed to the flag pin in the lapel crowd.

Famous quote that Boswell attributed to Samuel Johnson in 1775.
"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel".
Never more true than in our day and age.

A pox upon them.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?

===================================================================================

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

There's a political fuss going on over one of McCain's people spouting a rant at a campaign event about Barack HUSSAIN Obama. I suppose they think the middle name will make him look like an evil terrorist.
I've never seen John McCain use his middle name SIDNEY. Does it seem effeminate? Or maybe just not macho enough as befits his image.
Get a LIFE folks. Refer to people by the name they want to use. All this other stuff is schoolyard childishness.

DO CLOTHES MAKE THE MAN? OR WOMAN?

It seems that the Clinton campaign has become desperate, and is sending pictures of Obama to an internet political site in the hope of making him appear "subversive", if not downright unpatriotic.
Obama was visiting an African country, and as many politicians do, wore some native garb. Big *&%#@^! deal!!!
I expect this sort of political smear from the Republicans. I hope that my party will operate at a higher moral level, but if they don't, can they win?
If the Democrats become the party of 'swiftboating" as the Republicans are, then what is left for us?

Ralph Nader the Spoiler

"Rottenralph" Nader, spoiler of democracy and handmaiden of Karl Rove is back to his evil machinations in hopes of prolonging the Bushwar by stealing votes from the Democrats and installing Bush lite in the Oval Office.
Democrats, listen up! If you vote for Rottenralph, you are doing the work of the military-industrial complex we were so eloquently warned about by *Dwight D Eisenhower when he left the presidency.

Democrats, don't be "dumocrats". Vote for the party nominee whoever he or she may be.

(I know, a bit over-the-top. Still-in-all, look at the damage Ralph has created by exercising his over-inflated ego)

The wisdom of Ike
*In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.                                      The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.

THE McCAIN PAIN

My mother was a firm believer in repetition being the key to learning. Mother had many sayings, with at least one for any occasion that might arise.
The current bruhaha swirling around John McCain brings 2 sayings to mind.

A MAN IS KNOWN BY THE COMPANY HE KEEPS

AVOID EVEN THE APPEARANCE OF EVIL

John, I'll bet your mother said these same things to you.

ARE REPUBLICANS "TORTURED SOULS"?

John McCain: Bush should veto CIA fifth-degree bill

by Mark Silva

Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war who suffered torture at the hands of his North Vietnamese captors, said today that President Bush should veto a bill that would prohibit the CIA from using waterboarding and other harsh interrorgation techniques on prisoners.

http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2008/02/john_mccain_bush_should_veto_c.html

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a man who knows firsthand about torture. You might think he would at least have strong moral objections.
To make the world a better place, we must be better than the world. Evil will never rout evil.
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

Bloomberg says U.S. is going "third world"

MAYOR RIPS FEDS' 'THIRD WORLD' $TANCE

http://www.nypost.com/seven/02152008/news/regionalnews/mayor_rips_feds_third_world_tance_97740.htm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm glad to hear someone with the stature of Mayor Bloomberg saying what I have been saying for a couple of years now. Look at the evidence. We are massively in debt. Our infrastructure is crumbling. We are constantly at war. Our government more and more resembles fascism. Our political system is more and more radicalized, especially with noxious religious overtones. Need I say more? How much time do you have?

I BLOGGED THE BELOW ON 12/04/07

The accomplishments of George W. Bush

Our credibility in the world community is diminished

Our power in the world is diminished.

Our military strength is damaged.

Our economy is struggling and is headed toward recession.

Our debt to foreign countries is at an unheard of level.

Our industry is dying in the face of foreign competition.

Our citizens are confused as to where we are and where we are going.

Our self respect is diminished

On and on we go. Down and down we go

What a Lovefest!!

Romney endorses Republican McCain in race

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This pusillanimous pas de deux brought to mind an old saying about the difference between Democrats and Republicans.
Democrats fall in love.
Republicans fall in line

Goodby, Tom Lantos

San Francisco Chronicle

Lantos dies, House's sole Holocaust survivor

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tom Lantos served ably and well for almost 14 terms in the Congress of the United States. Tom and I did not always agree, especially on the war in Iraq and other Middle-East questions, but he had my utmost respect.
Tom was a good man, an honest man and he served his district with honor and distinction. His local office was always ready to help constituents who had problems with the federal government. Two members of my wife's family that had trouble with Social Security went to Tom's San Mateo office and got a swift resolution.
Goodbye Tom, and may your successor take your example to heart and serve as ably as you did.

THE TRUTH ACCORDING TO TOM TOLES

I hope the voters that hired Bush to be president are pleased and happy with the result of their vote.
The labor of Hercules when he cleaned the Augean stables will seem as nothing much when compared to the task of the next president in cleaning up the overwhelming mess left by Dubya and his cohorts

Mitt

Mitt Romney, like his father George, may be a very good businessman, but is a lousy politician. At least a little proof that business and politics are not necessarily mutual undertakings. Not what Republicans want to hear.

Art of the possible

"Politics is the art of the possible"   Otto Von Bismarck   (1815–1898)

As you listen to all the candidates for president recite their ideas and plans, keep in mind the words of Von Bismarck, and ask if their plans and ideas are in the realm of the possible, and especially the probable.
Universal healthcare is spoken of with glowing platitudes, but are the candidates ideas within the "art of the possible"? Or will the vested interests blow them away? Will any candidate have the guts and staying power to carry the fight to a successful conclusion?

Questions to ponder.

The "conservative (radical) movement"

The so called "conservative movement" as exemplified by Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingrahmn and their ilk would be better known as the "bowel movement". They are radicals who hate our Constitution and the freedoms it guarantees. I don't think they will be happy until they resurrect Adolf Hitler to lead their march into Hell. Damn them and all the evil they stand for.

What is "Blowin' in the Wind"?

Is something, after all these years, "Blowin' in the Wind"? Will this primary election provide an answer as to which way the wind is blowing?
Will it be the same old dusty wind that obscures our vision, provides no solace and no answers, or does the direction change, and clarity abound?
I pray for an answer.

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Bob Dylan

Dylan copyrighted this song in 1962, and released it in 1963. I was 30 years old then. I'm almost 75 now, and it seems to me that much of what Dylan was trying to convey then, is still with us.
There has been progress on some fronts, but when it comes to war and peace, has anything changed?
"When will they ever learn?", as another song said.
