Senator Barack Obama is being flayed for stating that he would, as his opponents are saying, "talk to our enemies".
I sincerely believe that the most effective way to "defeat" your enemy is to make him your friend.
Only the morally weak prefer to face the "enemy" on the battlefield rather than across the conference table.
