Massacre at Virginia Tech

In the aftermath of the horror and tragedy of the Virginia Tech massacre, what will be done? In the long run, not a damn thing. There will be endless weeping, wailing, gnashing of teeth, beating of breast and strident pontificating by the talking heads. After the dust has settled and the din has become quiet, we will be back to business as usual. Any homicidal lunatic will be able to legally purchase high power weapons, and use them to kill and maim his fellow citizens.

We live in a culture of violence and death. You doubt that? Just look around. Television, rap lyrics, foreign policy, the tragedy of Iraq. What more do you need to see?

It's only a matter of time until the next tragic massacre brought about by the easy access to high power weapons. Mark my words.
