WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. Gordon Smith, who voted in favor of the Iraq war and has supported it ever since, now says the current U.S. war effort is "absurd" and "may even be criminal."

Senator Smith, if you're smart enough to see it now, why weren't you smart enough to see it then? The citizens of Oregon voted you into office because they thought you had the intelligence to see the truth and do the job. Now that you have admitted you were so very wrong, shouldn't you resign?
