Never trust a business to "do the right thing" just because it's the right thing to do. You have to keep a "gun" to their heads to have any certainty that your safety is of any interest to these people, especially if it may impact their profit margin.

LOONEYS IN CHARGE

When an individual is behaving in an irrational and destructive manner and poses a danger to those in the same vicinity, there are means of restraint so as to ameliorate the potential for harm. This is a rational and civilized reaction to the problem.

However, when the irrational and destructive behavior is by the Governor and Legislature of the State of California, what are the citizens to do? Eventually these fools and charletans can be voted out of office, but before that happens irreparable harm may have been done.

All citizens have a duty to inform their representatives that unless the fiscal emergency is solved, and soon, they will never get another vote.

Bernie Madoff is one of the biggest crooks in history. Not as big as the Bush administration and their trillions of dollars of public debt for no logical reason.
However, Bernie as an individual crook has surely gone over the top.

I have to wonder how many of the big losers are Bushite anti-regulatory types. They may, I hope, have learned a very very expensive lesson. I hesitate to say that it may serve them right, but the thought crossed my mind. We need cops to enforce the law, whether it's to arrest a petty shoplifter, or to watch closely and bring a halt to billion dollar thieves like Bernie.

I'm very aggravated that this crook is not in jail. If he was a petty shoplifter and couldn't make bail, he would be in the pokey right now. This does prove that there's a double standard of justice depending on your social standing. Bernie lives in a multi-million dollar Manhatten townhouse, and is only confined to quarters at night. This is NOT right.

NATIONAL HEALTH CARE

Rep. Barney Frank questioned the auto executives today concerning the health care costs for their companies. It seems that the costs over time are up in the range of 34 billion bucks. It logically led into the benefit to the industry of the US having national health care to reduce operating cost, not only for them but for all business.

The rightwingers on the panel looked like they had just swallowed something extremely unpleasant.

What I have to say to congressjerks is this: You have the best healthcare that money (taxpayers) can buy. Do you think the rest of us are just doggy doo-doo and deserve far less than you? You should be cut off from benefits forthwith and until you do your job for all the people and not just grossly overpaid auto execs.

A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD

Citizens in most prosperous countries around the world have health care provided by the government, or as some say, "socialized medicine". That is one of the reasons that products made in those countries and exported to the US cost less than the same product made in the US.

We must nationalize health care. Otherwise, we fail.

CAN FOOLS MANAGE FOOLS?

A Senate committee is grilling the "big three" auto makers who are groveling with tin cups in hand, begging for alms. The good senators want to be sure that any funds dispensed to the car boys is properly managed. What a nerve!!

If these senate stooges had good sense, maybe we wouldn't be in a stupid war in Iraq that has brought us to the brink of bankruptcy. The same stooges should have put in place proper rules and oversight of the banking and mortgage industry that is now being rewarded for their evil ways.

Who will save us from all the sleazebags that claim to know how to save us?

BUCKS FOR THE "BIG THREE"

I'm watching on tv news, the "big three" automobile executives. hat in hand, begging for taxpayer money to save their companies from failure and demise. It's not their fault, you know. They manufactured products that the man in the street wanted. Or so they say.

They could have done better. They should have done better. To survive from now on, they must do better.

My memory took me back to the days when I worked in the construction trade. Economic conditions would deteriorate, available jobs would decline, and inevitably layoffs would occur.

In the front of my mind, I could rationalize my situation by blaming the economy. In the back of my mind lurked the thought that if only I had done better at my job, maybe I would still be working, and someone else would be down and out. I believe that this also applies to the car makers. If only they had done better, they wouldn't be groveling before Congress and begging for help.

TAX AND SPEND

For as long as I can remember, the Republicans have called the Democrats, "the party of tax and spend". Much to our economic distress, the Republicans, who have been in power for the past 8 years have been "the party of don't tax, but spend anyway". Now, as a result of this foolishness, the economy is out of whack, the public debt is of astronomical proportions, and growing rapidly with every multi-billion "bailout".

California governor Arnold "Terminator" Schwarznegger says the state government is in great economic distress and has signed a declaration of emergency. Well Arnold, you have been a willing part of the "don't tax, but spend anyway" gang of economic lame-brains, and now you are looking for a bailout to save you and your ilk from bankruptcy. I'll bet your mother taught you better, but you forgot the lesson.

Speaking of bailouts, there can only so much money be printed before the evils of inflation ruin the economy. Read the history of Germany after World War One.
